I had a really great start in music. My parents were accomplished amateur musicians who instilled a love of music in my siblings and me from the time we were very young. We made music together, listened to each other practice, always holding music a part of our identity as individuals.
After graduating the Juilliard School, I played viola with the Essex Quartet for more than a decade. Performing some of the most extraordinary classical music in the world was a true privilege; but once I had kids, my vision of my life in music changed. Teaching became my passion.
I was lucky to learn from the best, having served as teaching assistant to the Tokyo and Juilliard String Quartets and Shirley Givens (author, "Adventures in Violinland"). For the past 2 decades I taught music and chaired the Arts Department at the Amistad Dual Language School in New York City.
Great Start Music School is my newest project and passion. It's all about nurturing young musicians, learning music for the sake of loving music, fostering communication, caring, and self-respect through our love of music.
