Why music-class instruction?
Great Start Music School's Music-Class Learning Program is a perfect match for instrumental music instruction within a school, after-school, community center or similar setting.
In our Music-Class Learning Program, classes (up to 10 students per group) follow the "workshop model" of instruction. New skills and concepts are introduced during a whole-group "mini-lesson" at the start of class. Students then practice the material in pairs, allowing for both time to explore and refine the material and for check-ins with the teacher to monitor individual progress. Classes then transition to either whole-group ensemble playing or "Performance Time", wherein individuals or small groups of students present to each other in a supportive and inclusive environment.
This model is an excellent introduction to instrumental music; fostering within the student a sense of belonging and agency in the process of making music together!
